SPOTLIGHT: Carol Hurlock

HAPPY WEDNESDAY! It's SPOTLIGHT DAY at Fred She Said and I am delighted to spotlight Carol H.!  I swear this girl knows how to throw the hearts around!   Check out her blog and see the valentine decorating and cute pillow ornaments she has been making!  Beeootiful!  Now here's CAROL!:

********************************************

You can't believe how excited I was when I saw this fabulous Digi from Fred She Said Designs. With a houseful of baseball fans and players it is the perfect image for a Valentine's Day Card!!! Tracy's images are some of the best on the net. This wonderful image is called "Catch Your Heart" and can be found here at her store!

I LOVE shaker cards and knew this image would be a perfect shaker....but with a twist. If you look closely, you will see a package of Terrifically Tacky Tape. I am forever throwing out that nice domed piece....and suddenly in December it hits me that I could use that...and so this shaker card was born. You too should save that piece, because I am going to tell you how to use it for your next easy peasey "Shaker Card".
The size of my card is 6 x 6. You can see here that I cut around the plastic and left about a 1/2 inch or so. I filled the bowl with this shaker material. Hint: If you are having problems with static electricity inside the plastic dome, you can take a dryer sheet and wipe the inside before placing your shaker material. You are going to glue this to your image....you can see mine in the foreground. I use 3-in-1 Advanced Craft Glue for my adhesive.

Once that has dried, you are going to make the portion of the embellishment that slips over the dome to hide the edges. In this picture, I cut a 5" x 5' piece of designer paper. This is so easy to do as long as you have your measurements correct. In the middle of that piece of paper, I used Martha Stewart's round circle cutter and put the blade of the knife in the 3-9/16 hole and cut out the circle. I then used the heart around the page punches from Martha Stewart. I used the same 3-in-1 glue to attach it to the card. I love inking the edges of my cards...so I have used the Rangers Tea Dye distress ink around all the edges. The hearts are a Martha Stewart punch and I cut a plain heart to line the underside of this lattice heart.
Here is my card with the envelope I created. Keep in mind you will need a thicker style envelope to place your card in. I used the 6 x 6 Envelope Kit from "Priscillastyles" found here. You can see in this picture what I am talking about with the thickness.

The kit comes with a template to help you cut out the envelope. I have lined the inner part of my envelope and all the flaps, and this is how you form your envelope around the form. I hope you enjoyed viewing my project and will start using those pieces of plastic you would normally throw away. Just think about all the fun and fascinating things you can create with them and reuse these items to help save the earth!

Gorgeous, Carol and what a great way to recycle packaging!

Have a great day!

FSS Challenge Blog: Are you a winner?

The FEB 1st FSS CHALLENGE FOLLOWER  winner is announced on the FSS Challenge Blog.  Are you a winner?!  ;)  If you aren't we are doing it again March 1st!  Just follow the challenge blog and you can win a free image :)

My offending ribbon & Monday PICK ME UP

I issued a  Fun With Fred challenge last week, in a moment of craziness LOL!  You are to use a ribbon you blindly pick out of your stash  OR choose one that has been "perplexing" you, like colours you don't normally use, or pattern or it is just CRAZY.  It is just for fun, if you would like to "perplex yourself" grab a ribbon, make a project and post it on the FSS Group Comment Wall.    Well I chose and it took me a few days to get it together LOL.  It DOTH perplexed me!!!  The ribbon I chose is in an autumn stripe... these are colours I just don't normally use... ( look around my blog and the various assortment of pastels LOL)  Well, it came together in the end... and also leads to this week's   MONDAY PICK ME UP.  I used a paper I designed but haven't got around to working it into anything.  A "petite fleurs" patterned paper.  This pack contains 5 little flowery papers.  And can be downloaded HERE.  ( UPDATE: Link fixed JUNE 2017)

CARD DEETS:
Green background paper is ink brayered to get that soft blocky look then CB embossed.  The leaves and paper strip are sponged with distress inks.  EK Success border punches and MS butterfly stamp/punch combo, Bosskut daisy leaves die, orange stickles.  Perplexing Ribbon... no idea, a gift from a friend.  My digital petite fleurs paper in yellow orange.  I coloured the Flower with pencils/OMS.

Happy Monday!

FSS Challenge

Here is my attempt at Deanne's theme for the FSS Challenge.  I used Fred's Flowers v6 Daisies and cut out an included frame and sponged it with distress ink and coloured the flowers with pencils. I tried a ruffled border punch tutorial which can be found HERE using a border punch and a crimper :)  I also inked the border ruffle with distress inks.  I love distress inks LOL!

The monthly challenge is still on and runs until Feb 21st so you still have lots of time to play :)  and get a chance to win $20 gift certificate to the Fred She Said store.

Have a great day!

DT Spotlight: Carol Lepard

Happy Wednesday!  I almost dropped the ball!  I forgot what day it was d'oh!  It's SPOTLIGHT DAY :D  And today I am happy to feature DT Carol Lepard :)  Tea Bag Folding is a technique we both love. And clever Carol is a wiz at making new folds!

******************************

For this card, I have used an image by Fred She Said called Emma with Her Frills On - Digi . Emma is colored with both Prismacolor Watercolor Pencils as well as Prismacolor Pencils and Dry Blended. I used the regular pencils on Emma's face, hands and feet as I don't have a "skin tone" pencil I like in my Watercolor set.
Papers used are a purple textured metallic paper that I picked up at Walmart as well as a Purple Mirri Board, both have been cut with the Spellbinders Nestabilities Large Labels die. The whole thing is mounted on Textured White Cardstock.
Martha Stewart Deep Edge Punch was used on the metallic purple cardstock and the Martha Stewart Lattice Punch was used on a bit of green cardstock for the "grass" under Emma's feet.

Here is a closer look at Emma. She has Bling flowers with Peel-off waste used to make a Bow and Ribbons for her bouquet. The lace on Emma's dress has also been "blinged" with Aleene's Tack-it Over and Over and Glamour Dust.

For those interested in Tea Bag Folding, the medallion on my card is done using the Variation of Carol's Crazy Zig-Zag Fold and a tile by my good friend Marie B. I have included the fold directions for those who would like to try their hand at folding....more of my Tea Bag directions to follow in future posts, so keep your eyes peeled. ;-) (just click on the directions to bring them up full screen.)

Better Than Chocolate

Just up in the store!!!  Better Than Chocolate  Outline digi, sentiments, 3 coloured versions, sheets, it's all here in this set. :)

Don't forget to try the FSS Monthly Challenge! It's on until Feb 21!   I edited the entry instructions and added a Mr. Linky so it will be easier to enter  AND you can also email me your cards and I will host and enter them in the Linky for you if you don't have a  web gallery or blog.  All previous entries have been added and  recorded, so if you have already entered, no worries!

Have a great day!

DT Spotlight: Lora McIntyre

* If you are looking for the blog hop please go HERE :) *

Happy Wednesday! Today I am happy to feature LORA! This project is sooo cute! and I am a sucker for puppies... and pearls! ;)

************

From Lora:

I decided to alter a little heart shaped box since Valentines Day is fast approaching. I got one of those chipboard boxes from the craft shop and covered it with some K&Co paper which is one of my favourite brands (isn't it everyone's?)
I have tried several ways of covering these shaped boxes and have found that the easiest way to do it is in three pieces.
First measure the width of your base and cut a strip of patterned paper (I used a 12x12 paper and it was just a bit longer than I needed), put a strip of double sided tape around the bottom and top of the base (or glue if you prefer) and starting at the top of the heart stick the paper all the way round.
Do the same with the edge of the lid, then trace round the top of the lid onto your patterened paper, cut out and stick with glue.
I then sanded all the edges to make them neat and it also stops the paper from ripping at the edges :) I inked the edges with brushed corduroy distress ink just to hide any imperfections where I had sanded especially where the paper joins on the lid.
Then decorate how you please :) I used a string of tiny pearls around the lid stuck on with clear drying glue and of course FSS Rosie which I coloured with Polychromos Pencils and OMS (my very first time colouring with them by the way!! lol)

*************
Thanks, Lora... love it! And your first time colouring with pencil/OMS .. you did a great job!

CARD Smelling the Cherry Blossoms

Hi! I decided to try and make an easel card. I found the instructions on Splitcoast Stampers. The Cherry Blossoms Paper was printed on matte photo paper and I glue pen embossed an outline around some of the flowers with a gold embossing powder with glitter in it. It just makes the paper look so rich almost like real washi paper. I coloured the girl and blossoms with alcohol markers ( copic and neopiko) and did some highlighting on hair, etc with white pencil and added a shadow with a cream pencil. I used Waterfall Stickles on the sash and flowers. The butterfly is from MS butterfly stamp combo punch. There are 3 green gems ( that didn't photograph well so you can't see them) keeping the card propped up.

I've attached the sentiments in case you would like to use them :)

Have a great day! ... and don't forget to hop around the Blog Hop and get the chance to win some new designs!

Merry Christmas!

It is a wonderful rainy day for Christmas. I don't mind as I have seen enough snow this season and you don't have to shovel rain LOL! I hope though we get some snow for the kids to enjoy for the rest of the holidays. I am 3 hours south of my residence at the moment. So it may be snowing at home. The turkey is ready early and we are enjoying company and my parents. Rosey is attempting to play with a new reluctant friend, a miniature poodle. I don't blame him though, she has no manners LOL!

Here is another card. I used antique linen and shabby shutter distress inks to antique the Christmas Rose with some clear glaze pen on the berries and stardust pen here and there and on the frame. The backing paper is a plain greenish beige I got from a dollar store, CB embossed, then I tapped on some versamark and brushed on some moonglow powder. The mica powder I used is rusty at one angle and shines green the other way... so lovely.
Thank you so much for the Christmas wishes we received. And to those who have applied for the DT positions. Oh my goodness, you are all so talented. I will have my work cut out for me trying to pick when I return home!
Hope everyone is having a joyous and blessed holiday season!

Oh Rosey

ROSEY BEFORE

I said I was going to show some before and afters of Rosey's first haircut. Her beard got a bit red stained from the drooling and the wetting of her food while she was first on antibiotics. But still a cute little button.

ROSEY AFTERS

Here's a video... we found her bed at Deals surplus store for $9 and a rubber chicken. She is in love. Narrating by Nolan. LOL

I am working on some christmas cards. I hope to get photos later but I'm in a time crunch. We are heading to the grandfolks for Christmas tomorrow morning :)

We wish you all a very Merry Christmas!!!!

Little Rosey is not in the Christmas spirit at the moment... she just started antibiotics for a bladder infection and she is not agreeing with it. She is a drooly sweaty mess! Christmas Rose

Christmas Rose Digi & Coloured Sets are available now in the store HERE :) Also included in both sets is a sentiments set:

Card details:

I included in both sets a lovely arrangement with an oval frame. I glue pen embossed the lines on the frame with a Sakura Quickie Glue Pen and Ranger gold detail embossing powder. I used 2 layers to complete the 3d roses and frame but could have put a third and even 4th layer of roses on the front for even more elegance! The rose and sprigs were embellished with a Sakura Star Dust pen. I am trying to get the hang of my Bow-Easy and made some double and triple bows for the cards.

I am getting a late start on unfinished christmas projects. I have been battling Benign Positional Vertigo. I am pretty much ok now, I hope the Dr. fixed it... I still get a nauseous feeling when I look up but no spins. I am planning to Christmas-fy Rosey!

Have a great day!

I interrupt the holidays with some...

Girly frills! .. and PINK!!! LOL Sometimes I don't know what I will come up with when I start doodling. This one is unabashedly girly, almost to the point of looking like a bridesmaid's dress gone wrong LOL. But it is what it is... cute! " Emma with her Frills On". I decided on 2 versions. One has her holding a bouquet of flowers and the other is Emma with empty hands and then there is a set of coordinating tiny Fred's Flowers to make a posey for her to hold :D Like in the card below.

For this card I used a digital paper I have recently made using a lacey brush I doodled. How fast can you say FREEBIE?? heehee hint.. click freebie! I printed a second Emma onto the printed paper and then paper pieced the dress and hat, the hands are hidden behind the flowers. I shaded the dress with a dark pink pencil. All colouring is with with pencils/OMS as well as the green background paper.... I roughly cross-hatched some greens and blended the pencil markings where it would show with OMS... great way to get a coordinating DP for your coloured images! The shadow around Emma is Caledon Green... I love this colour and it is one of the greens in my background. All glitter is Diamond Stickles on the lace, hat trim and scalloped border - I used flatbacked sticky pearls and a pink gem for the posey. .. and a whole whack of foam tape LOL.

"Emma with her Frills On" and another new wintery Emma will be available as digi's ASAP as well as a coloured Fall Flowers set. There will be a delay on coloured Emma versions. I am attempting to get over a sinus/allergy attack that started Sat. and basically laid me flat for a day or two.

NEWS!

Reminder - Samartan's Purse & Thank You!

Hi Peeps! I have been tallying up the donations for Samaritan's Purse from $2 of each sale of the Poinsettia & Pine Boughs Digi Set . I am also going to include in that donation $1 from the sale of the Coloured Version of this set :) It has been quite popular! All previous sales of the coloured version will be included in the donation. I made a cool meter and picked a total of $400 goal. If we reach that goal that would be awesome, if not... still awesome! Thanks to all who have helped so far :D I will be collecting until Dec. 25th. If you want to spread the word, that would be great :D I will try to keep this meter updated daily... it will be at the top of my blog.

Also this week is Drop Off week for Operation Christmas Child.

Please click the link above for more details and where you can drop off a shoe box for a child in need.
