Stencils - Removing WC paint with Baby Wipes

Hey all!

I've got another stencil technique I have been playing with.  I had these Elmer's Art Crayon Sticks since I think Nolan was in Pre-school ( not doing math today - but that was forever ago ).

They work like gelatos; they are waxy,  a lipstick consistency, very blend-able, and they are water soluble.   I have no idea where you can find them to buy.  But if you have gelatos, gel sticks, or watercolor crayons, even cheap watercolors, you will get near the same effect.  See my notes below after the VIDEO :)

For the video,  I used smooth white cardstock and a stencil I digitally cut onto transparency film.

For the card above, I used Ornate Butterfly Digi that I watercoloured, glittered and added gems.  Background is a Darice embossing folder.

Here are the 2 panels I made using above technique.

Things I noticed while I was playing:

- I also tried the technique with  watercolor crayons and Koi watercolors.... all work.
- Cardstock works OK.  A clay coated cardstock works better.  Watercolor paper also gives a nice effect.  Another option that I didn't try but would work is a gessoed surface.
-make sure your paint surface is dry to the touch before securing your stencil.
-use a clean part of the baby wipe each time you start on a different color of paint or you get a "halo" of the previous color on the next area.

Stencil Rubbings

Hey all!

That fun thing you did as a youngster with a yummy smelling pack of Crayolas and paper, where you would put coins or leaves or that weathered picnic table top in the back yard under you paper and then rub over top with  crayons?  You can be all grown up and arty farty and do it with stencils!  I have been having fun making backgrounds :)

Used crayons, white prisma pencil, Four Point Star Stencil, Doodled Floral 1, Darice embossing Folders, gold cardstock, deckle scissors, and spellbinders die.

I love the dreamy smeary look.

VIDEO TIME....

Used, Whirlpool Splash Stencil cut on transparency film, and Happy Flowers Rainbow Collection flower sheets.  Eventually, I will add a sentiment in the empty space.

Here is a close up of a stencil rubbing blended with a light coloured prisma pencil.

New Doodled Floral, Stencils & a TUT

Hey all! This summer is cruising by... eek!  How have you all been? :)

 I added some new files... they are at the bottom of the post.

OK I am going to say it, I am LOVING stencils, I love drawing them, and I love tweaking and experimenting with them. Modeling paste?... oh my goodness!  I love that I can use the Cutting File Stencils in different ways and even as a printable digi image ( I have more ideas and inspiration later this week :)  ).  I noticed that there must be others that like them too as I did some math... I have had 2358 downloads of the Free Stencils  as of today .... sales on the 5 latest cutting file stencils?  .... not so much... really bad $29 ( bad enough to seriously rethink this stencil making love of mine. I have to put food on the table, you know?)  Now I admit, I am mostly to blame as I have all these ideas, and I haven't shown you any of  them!  Maybe you just don't "get" what fun they are ;) So let's try to change that now LOL!

So here is something you can do with Cutting File Stencils that you CAN'T DO with bought pre-made stencils :) ( This one needs a Digital Cutting Machine)

I made 2 card fronts with one cut of the Circles Stencil.

I did a gradient wash onto an A2 card stock panel with watercolour crayons and a waterbrush. ( a red, orange and a yellow Neocolor II )

Make sure the panel is SUPER DRY before proceeding.  I used Make the Cut! software with my digital cutting machine and visual lined up/eyeballed my A2 panel on my cutting mat in the middle of the square Circles Stencil that I saw on the mat "on screen"  and added some junk card stock on each side my panel so my blade wouldn't hit bare mat.  Then I cut.  I peeled away the panel.  Leaving the negative bits on the mat... that is important.

I secured another white A2 card stock together with the cut panel with painters tape top and bottom so the panel wouldn't slip.  Now all you do is glue down each leftover piece off the mat into the holes in the panel.  I used a UHU stick for my glue.  NOTE: Take each negative circle off the mat ONE AT A TIME ...much easier to figure out where they go that way ;)

I made these 2 cards...

I embossed the cardstock underneath the watercolored stencil cut panel... looks so cool!

The image used for both cards is the new Doodled Floral 1.  The product includes the outline DIGI and 2 pre-coloured images :) 

I also added a new digital cutting file stencil set:  Four Point Star Pattern Stencils

MTC/Silhouette Studio/SVG/GSD/DXF/V-PDF/PNG

The 3 above stencils are included in the set.

.... I'll show you what I did with this stencil set tomorrow :)

And for the digital stamp lovers out there.  I am putting my stencil happy love on hold and have some new images in the works.  ... gotta put the nose to the computer screen and get 'er done!

A Little Fat Santa & a pretty FRAME!

Hi all!

I just added a couple of things to the STORE. 

I wanted a simple little gnomish Santa to add to some cards I was making.  I just want to squeeze his cheeks and pull his beard LOL!

Little Fat Santa ( DIGI OR COL SET)

... and I wanted a CUT FILE frame for my Pointy Poinsettia Flower!  So I made 2 versions.

CUT FILE-Wrought Iron Square Frame SET:

The frame used Wrought Iron Square Frame version 2 and  was cut from white card stock.   The main part of the frame was glue-sprayed and sprinkled with Rock Candy dry glitter before it was adhered to the base frame.  The flower is from the Pointy Poinsettia Flowers.    I am thinking I will be using the Wrought Iron Frame A LOT with my butterflies and flowers in the future  ;) ... yes I am giddy with anticipation!   ..... just have to get through "Christmas card making season"  first! LOL

WCMD Challenge reminder and Card

Hi! I knew this in the back of my head but it didn't sink in when we took the plunge to add a new puppy to the family. They are like having babies!!!! They are up at night, they pee and poop alot.. and hopefully you get them outside before they do it LOL! Unlike babies, puppies have sharp teeth and Rosey has discovered hers and her BARK. She is at the magical toothy bite everything age. So we are teaching her manners about not biting... it is slowly sinking in but man, they can bite! LOL. So sleep deprived, Fred is showing a card she made a few weeks ago LOL! I love this Sizzix embossing folder, can't recall name at the moment. This is coloured with pencils/OMS and distress inks ( aged mahogany and antique linen), I didn't expect a mahogany color to be such a nice pink. The digistamp and paper pricking pattern are from the Fall Flowers Set.

Drive-By: Christmas Card 2

Here is the other quick christmas card I made. I used Emma the Hugger coloured version. The scalloped circle is painted with gold lumiere paint... but it didn't have a tinsel-ly enough feel so I added diamond stickles all over it and also added stickles to the image and the flakes in the embossed paper, which has broken china distress ink applied with the blending tool. This card just has this tinselly glow... I love tinsel... but not with puppies... our Molly liked to eat tinsel :O So we will keep tinsel off the tree this year so Rosey won't eat it.

Drive-By: Christmas Card

I made some quick christmas cards for a lovely lady I know. This is the Christmas Flower Doodledallions Digi Set ( no border version with snow) in which I coloured with a light blue WC pencil, Fired Brick, Peeled Paint & Pine Needles distress inks and an aqua brush. I also added Diamond Stickles and a gem. The coloured paper is actually sponged with distress inks to match. Will I need re-inkers soon? probably LOL!

CARD - using Blue Blossom Sheet

I finally got a chance to use the Dark Blue Blossom Sheet ( By the Sheet section). I showed a side view to show the dimension I got by using silicone glue and moulding the flowers. I used Stickles on centers of flowers and distress stickles ( Faded Jeans) on the blue scalloped frame. The sentiment is from a Stampendous Clear Stamp collection I got a CropStop... ( Orchid Greetings) The colours on this one really pop... I chose the vivid photo setting on my printer and used Staples brochure and flyer paper... which I think is matte photo paper.

Blue Painted Flower & Digi-Freebie

Here is a little experiment using the "A Lovely Blossom & Butterfly Set". I took a blossom flower PNG and used it as a stencil in Corel Painter so the only area that I could paint on was the flower and not the background. I started painting different colours on the petals, I painted in centers with cream and some multi-coloured dots. After printing out, I cut out 3 different sizes and shades of flowers. I laid each flower on a foam mouse pad and embossed multiple vertical lines over each petal, turned over, and repeated to give the petals a variegated texture.



I edged the petals with an iridescent blue watercolor paint and a liner brush, the close-up shows a little clearer how I brushed the paint on. I added some little streaks of olive green metallic watercolor and gold liquid pearls to the center of the flower. The petals were bent by moulding the petals with my fingers and then I glued the flowers together. The various pieces of CS and the leaves ( the backs of printed leaves that were embossed with a stylus tool) were coloured with distress inks and a blending tool. I darkened the centers of the leaves a bit with with some darker ink and a water brush. I edged the leaves and lined the veins with some green iridescent paint.

These flowers are like a first draft... I am experimenting with different colours and brushstrokes, some with plain centers for more versatility. This is about 2 projects down on my to do list. I thought I would give you a freebie to see if you like them.

I am bursting with ideas - like this could be done with regular paints or inks! Add the variegated embossing to the flower petals and brush paints/twinkling H2O's/inks on the back side of the petals. I have made one with distress inks that I will show you tomorrow.

Purple Blossom Card

Here in Canucky Land, today is a civic holiday, I think that means the people who are civil get a day off. Us other mean folk have to work. But for me in the summer everyday is a holiday and a workday take my pick. heehee.

Pulling another card out of my box,



Deets:
-Background: CB Embossed and Distress ink using blending tool ( one of the purples and a bit of antique linen ) and a bit of chalk on the leafy parts.
-Oval Nestabilities and Shapeabilities - Floral Accent that I distressed with antique linen and a purple and added matching distress stickles.
-Digital set used: A Lovely Blossom & Butterfly
-Flowers coloured with pencils and OMS and glitter glue dotted in the center. - on the leaves, you can really see the sheen the pencil gives your paper... if you lightly rub your pencilled areas with a tissue, it buffs and evens the sheen. I personally like the shine.

Off to do something with my children, they have been with the grandfolk last week. I think I missed them more than they missed me LOL!

Card - Pink Blossom & Distress Ink Technique

Hi Everyone! I am still waiting on a few voters in the challenge so I have no news for you yet! I also want to remind you that there will also be 2 winners picked by random draw ( out of a hat.. don't like those random number generators.. not random enough for me LOL!).

I have a few cards I haven't posted yet. So I will close my eyes and pick one...

Oh yes... :O)

I love the background on this one. Here is what I did:

-I inked up my Sizzix Damask embossing folder with Worn Lipstick and Scattered Straw Distress inks randomly. ( on the debossed side)
-I embossed the folder in the CB with white cardstock.
-I spritzed the cardstock with water.
-dry with heat tool
- then I moistened the clean sponge on my blender tool and inked it with scattered straw and then rubbed it over the embossed areas of the cardstock.
- I probably spritzed the cardstock again.
- dry with heat tool. Isn't it cool?!

The frame is from the same Sizzix embossing set.. Medallions, Frame & Damask and was distressed with scattered straw and then cut out. The bird is a BossKut bird die inked with worn lipstick and I added Distress Stickles in the same colour all over it.

Flowers and leaves are from "A Lovely Blossom & Butterfly Set" and are coloured with pencils and OMS . The center of the flower is 2 small daisy punched flowers ( fiskars I think) coloured with streaks of yellow and green pencil. I snipped each petal to make "ruffly" and bent the center of each punched flower in with a rounded embossing tool on a mouse pad to get the petals to pop out, then I glued one daisy on top of the other. The very center is lime green stickles.

Little Miss Bitty Card & Freebies

This is the card I made on my newly cleaned off desk LOL ( actually not so clean anymore ;) )
I made the paper using a digi-stamp background paper tool (see below for details). I used Artweaver to open the background paper PNG ( white flowers on transparent background). I added a green floodfill to the bottom background layer and then I filled the flower-centers on the top flower layer with various colours here and there on the sheet. I realized I didn't have any red on the printed sheet so I coloured with poppy red pencil in some of the centers. I used my sakura quickie glue pen to outline the flowers, leaves, wings and hair and then sprinkled Glamour Dust on it. Quite sparkly! Image and flowers are coloured with pencils and OMS.

Here is the digi-paper I made and one in baby blue with random white flower centers you can colour in after printing. Click each image to enlarge then save to your hard drive.


You can change the colour of both in graphics software or even in Word by altering the hue. I also recommend Google's free Picasa; it has wizards that let you play with an image's colors in various ways. I hope to have more info or a tutorial on this later. Just remember to save your new papers with a different file name so you don't ruin your originals.

Red Polka Dotty Flower Card & Digi-Freebie

Here is a card I made for my BFF. I used the Polka Dotty Flowers Set, in red. The leaves are from the set, but ( HERE's a TIP :) ) I coloured over them with prismacolor pencils ( kelp green and sage green) to deepen the colours. I actually blended with the sage green pushing it back and forth into the darker colour. So if you want your leaves ( you will always have extra leaves from the sheets ;) ) to match or work better with what you are doing, try colouring over them, with pencils or copics or whatever! The ribbon stems is May Arts 3/16 stitched ribbon I got from Pink Hedgehog Paper Crafts. I also used black dew drops for the flower centers.

I am adding the digi paper I used here as a freebie. I love this one as it goes with everything, especially the coloured flowers :) Please click the sheet below to enlarge then right-click and save to your hard drive ( I meant it to be 5"x7" at 200 ppi but you can resize larger if needed).

Dahlia's and Viney Flourish 1

This first card uses a mirrored flourish in green. The Dahlia and leaves were coloured in Artweaver using the gradient-fill. The background cuttlebugged paper is so neat... I chalked multiple layers of pinks/yellows then painted random little flowers and leaves with shimmery paint ( sakura pearlescent watercolour pallete) before I embossed with the bug. I pearlized a white brad for the center of the flower. Also used: Martha Stewart punch, and gold peeloffs and plenty of silicone glue LOL.


This card uses a single version of the Viney Flourish and Pointy Petalled Dahlia's outline sheet. I coloured the flower with pencils and OMS. The background paper is various smudged layers of chalk pastels ( purple, pink, green and I think yellow) then I stamped my swirly doodle stamp in a purple ink. I guilded the frame with gold pearlescent watercolour applied carefully with a liner brush. I added some green stickles to the buds on the flourish. Also used: Spellbinders Curved Rectangles, a gold Robin's Nest dew drop :).

Card - sneak preview

Meet Sydney the Seahorse. He is a friend of Emma the Mermaid :)

Sydney and the foliage were coloured on the computer. The foliage is another project I am putzing with and eventually will have "worked out" LOL. I coloured the water with pencils and OMS. The background is a black and white doodle pattern I printed. I then coloured wavy lines in various oranges and yellows of soft pastels, then blended with a cotton ball. After, I sprayed with gold glitter spray ( aresol can ). The flower is from the Polka Dotty Flowers - Fred's Flowers v1 Edition B Pack

Oh I just want to squeeze Sydney and make him squeak LOL!

Fred hopes to have Emma the Mermaid and friends ready for the beginning of next week.

Card - purple with quilling

I've been sifting through my card pile for things to blog, while I scramble to finish some projects.



Here is a purple one ( flower coming soon) and I tried my hand at a bit of quilling. I bought some gilded quilling paper a while ago and finally used it LOL!

I hit Walmart and bought some Aleene's Fast Grab Tacky Glue to stick my ribbon and gems down; it might be too thick for attaching quilled paper but I hope to try it soon. It does stick stuff fast! I bought a "Happy Birthday" embossing folder for "George" ( my cuttlebug, cuz I will love it, and squeeze it, and call it George - quote from Abominable Snowman vs Bugs Bunny ). .... and some Martha Stewart glue and glitter... cuz a girl just can't have enough glitter ;)

ahhh, shopping therapy... did not help this girl with her creative hurdles. ... Back to the grind....

Card - Dover Clipart

I coloured a lovely Dover Clipart bouquet with pencils and OMS, and stickles here and there. Notice you can do a nice scrumble effect with pencils shown here on my purple background colour. Just colour little scrumbly circles using very little pressure, then blend with OMS with a circular motion.

Another Teaser Card and a Freebie

I had a kind customer email me and had pointed out the fact I had the wrong sheet in the Pink Blossoms Kit according to the preview. Yikes! Instead of offering the sheet to customers by request like I usually do when I goof up ( or use my perogative and add things to products LOL ). I'll post it here as a FREEBIE! Oh and it's FRIDAY. How good of a coincidink is that? LOL

This card uses another flower I am currently working on. It is coloured with pencils/OMS and Stickles, as is the stamped curly vines ( from Stamp Attack Art Stamps - Butterflies Doodle-dallion Sheet by Fred She Said Designs), I also stamped a doodly medallion from the Doodles rubber stamp sheet with versamark and some "Bridal (PSX)" glittery embossing powder on the light purple backer. The patterned paper is from a design I have "experimented" with. I hope to have a similar version of the stamped vines in digital to put your pretty flowers on :)

***Please forgive any grammatical/sp errors on this post, we were up most of the night; they had to evacuate (on foot) our neighbourhood at 2 am, a gas line broke across the street, right in front of our house while repairing a broken fire hydrant, smucked by a van a few hours earlier. Talk about scary! ( the hissing was so loud we could hear it in the house) If I typed perfect prose, I am better than I thought ROFL.

Card - Pink Flower

Is that shocking pink enough for your eyes? LOL I used quite bright and happy colours 0n this one. The flower is from Fred's Flowers V2 Pointy Petals Pack. I used a neon pink pencil ( from a Prismacolor Scholar 60 pk - I don't think they make that colour in their Premier Line) and OMS to colour and added cotton candy pink stickles. My flower has the chicken pox, poor thing! LOL On the background, I used that chalk pastel technique, cuttlebugged, and then painted the embossed parts with some homemade acrylic glimmer paint ( RECIPE: I added a bit of yellow pearlex and glamour dust to a small jar and mixed in some acrylic floating medium I had kicking around collecting dust). The same paint was used to edge the scalloped rectangle. I have a part 2 of my playtime with pastel chalks; I'll post it soon.
